It's time now to head to the interior region of Alaska. Henrine Gray lives in the North Pole-Fairbanks area...You can say she and her family have a very spiritual connection with the community.

Henrine Gray lives in Fairbanks and works as an Assistant Pastor at Fairbanks Christian Center. She says at one time she did feel isolated in Fairbanks, but they she got involved with the churches and the Chamber of Commerce.

But she says there are still limits in the city, because many outlets for children have been taken away and not replaced.

“They had skating rinks, recreation centers,” Gray said. “We still have them on base but for those people who are not affiliated with the bases they cannot participate. So they have no outlet other than the churches and the school system.” Gray says one of the challenges facing the state is partisanship.

“We can disagree agreeably, and yet still be on the same sheet of music, and that’s what we don’t have,” she said. “And that’s what I would like to do…try to bring the people together in oneness.”

One can’t live in Fairbanks without a bit of complaint about the weather. But for Gray the nice warm summers in Fairbanks make up for the 50-, and 60-below temperatures.
