An Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race musher from Jamaica has scratched after reporting a missing dog Wednesday afternoon between the Rohn and Nikolai checkpoints.
Iditarod officials say Newton Marshall scratched from the race in Nikolai at 3:20 p.m. Thursday. He had arrived in Nikolai at 4:02 p.m. Wednesday, but didn’t have a complete team.
“While traveling from Rohn to Nikolai, one dog, Mae, became separated from the team,” McLarnon wrote in a statement. “All efforts are being made by (the) Iditarod Trail Committee to assist in locating Mae.”
McLarnon referred a request for details on the incident to race marshal Mark Nordman, who wasn’t immediately available for comment on the search Thursday afternoon.
