Smoking gas thief lights self on fire, police say
An Oregon man who decided to light up a cigarette while stealing gasoline managed to light himself on fire, according to Portland, Ore., police.
Portland firefighters were called to put out a car fire and treat a man injured by the flames on Sunday morning, according to a press release from the Portland Police Bureau.
The man, 62-year-old Harry Frederick Suniville, had ignited the fire after stealing a gas can from a nearby truck and pouring the gas into his car’s tank as he smoked, police said.
Suniville’s eyebrows and hair were singed and his pants and socks were burned. Both Suniville’s vehicle and the truck that originally held the gas tank were damaged, police said.
Suniville was charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, reckless burning and theft in the third degree.
