A familiar face for the Alaska Railroad will soon take over its top spot. On Friday, the Alaska Railroad Board of Directors named Bill O’Leary, Chief Operating Officer, as the incoming President and Chief Executive Officer.
O’Leary will officially take over on November 1, following Chris Aadnesen departure, who served as President and CEO since September 2010.
“I look forward to working with our employees, our customers and the state to foster that potential, and to continue to provide safe, reliable year-round transportation that supports Alaskan commerce,” said O’Leary in a news release.
O’Leary, a lifelong Alaskan from Fairbanks, previously served as the interim CEO from April 1 to September 22, 2010 and also held the position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In March 2013, he started as the COO and managed rail transportation, engineering, mechanical, safety, labor relations, marketing, customer service and grant administration functions.
