Anchorage police say a man arrested in a Monday night Spenard stabbing assaulted his girlfriend, then stabbed one of two men who confronted him after the incident.
In a Tuesday statement, APD spokesperson Anita Shell says 28-year-old Jonathan Knight has been charged with first-degree and second-degree assault after the stabbing at Knight’s apartment on the 3500 block of Dorbrandt Street, which police responded to at about 8:20 p.m.
“Earlier that evening, a group of people had gathered at the apartment and began drinking,” Shell wrote. “At some point (Knight) asked the partygoers to leave. Afterwards, Knight got into a fight with his girlfriend and assaulted her.”
The girlfriend took an 8-year-old boy to a neighbor’s home, while the men, who apparently weren’t armed, spoke with Knight.
“During the confrontation, Knight stabbed one of the men in the abdomen,” Shell wrote. “That man was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what appears to be a non life-threatening stab wound.”
APD spokesperson Anita Shell says the two men who returned to confront Knight were among about half a dozen people who were at the apartment during the party.
“There was the man, the woman, the two men who came back, and then there was another female -- and then there was the 8-year-old boy,” Shell said.
Knight has been remanded to the Anchorage Jail.
