Anchorage police say a man has been taken to a local hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the leg in a vehicle outside a Muldoon restaurant Thursday.
According to APD spokesperson Anita Shell, police received a call about the incident near the Red Robin restaurant at the Tikahtnu Commons mall, at 1190 N. Muldoon Rd., at 11:47 a.m.
Shell says initial reports indicate that the man was in a vehicle with his wife, child and dog when a weapon discharged.
“It looks like they were getting ready to have lunch and he shot himself in the leg,” Shell said.
Medics found the man with a gunshot wound from a handgun round to his mid-thigh. Shell says there aren't any indications that the injury was life-threatening.
"It just looks like a through-and-through, so they just transported him," Shell said.
Shell says there aren't any reports of foul play in the shooting, which appears to have been a negligent discharge.
