AST Names 2 People Killed in Sutton House Fire
Two Sutton residents who died in a local house fire Friday have been identified, according to Alaska State Troopers.
In a Thursday AST dispatch, troopers say the victims were determined by the state medical examiner’s office to be Eleanor Riley, 75, and Michael Armstrong, 54.
Troopers received a report just after 1 a.m. Friday of the fire on McPherson Avenue in Sutton. A 46-year-old Sutton man who survived the blaze told troopers he had awakened minutes earlier to find the home filled with smoke, then crawled to the front door and called for help from a neighbor’s home.
AST spokesperson Megan Peters says the state fire marshal’s office has yet to release any findings in an investigation of the fire, citing the deliberate nature of its work.
“With the fire marshals it’s a little different -- they have to conclusively prove that nothing else caused the fire before they can determine the cause,” Peters said.
Riley and Armstrong’s next of kin have been notified.
