Fairbanks Borough Backs New UAF Power Plant
The Fairbanks North Star Borough is backing a legislative request by the University of Alaska Fairbanks for a new power plant.
The borough assembly last week added the university project to its 2014 legislative priority list.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the project carries a $200 million price tag and has been a need identified by the university for years.
UAF officials say the existing power plant is nearing the end of its life and a failure in winter could leave the campus looking for a new source for heat and electricity.
