Fatal Vehicle-Bicycle Collision Remains Under Investigation
Anchorage police are working to investigate a man’s death and notify his next of kin, in the aftermath of a vehicle-bicycle collision on Northern Lights Boulevard Thursday afternoon.
According to APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro, the notification process is being slowed as officers track down the victim’s family.
“We understand that they’re out of state and potentially out of country, so we’re trying to ensure it’s done properly,” Castro said.
Police temporarily closed two westbound lanes of Northern Lights at 3 p.m. Thursday, after the bicyclist -- who was crossing the boulevard from north to south, west of its intersection with Minnesota Drive -- was struck by a gray Subaru headed west. The bicyclist was knocked unconscious in the crash; medics took him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
APD hasn’t publicly identified the Subaru’s driver. No citations have currently been issued in the collision, and Castro says further media updates in the incident probably won’t be made until next week.
