French Running for Lieutenant Governor
Democratic state Sen. Hollis French is running for lieutenant governor.
The Anchorage senator had been exploring another run for governor but Wednesday said he decided instead to support Byron Mallott as the Democratic candidate.
While party candidates for governor and lieutenant governor are chosen separately in primaries, he says Alaskans will see him working with Mallott.
French says neither Republican Gov. Sean Parnell nor Bill Walker is expected to have a real primary challenge, and he wanted to avoid putting Democrats through a primary. Walker is running as an independent.
Mallott is an Alaska Native leader who formally launched his campaign Tuesday. French plans to appear at a Mallott rally in Anchorage on Wednesday.
Palmer math teacher Bob Williams previously announced plans to run as a Democrat for lieutenant governor.
