The San Fernando bell was recently returned to the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

A historic bell has returned to a Russian Orthodox Church in Kodiak.

The San Fernando bell spent more than a century in Southern California and on October 1, it returned to the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral.

A dean at the church told the Kodiak Daily Mirror that bells considered joyful and a sign of hope in the Orthodox Church.

The bronze alloy bell stand 12 inches tall with a 12-inch diameter. It will be displayed in the church’s bell garden.

The bell is believed to be of Russian origin sometime in the early 19th century and part of a set, with another bell referencing Kodiak as a historical figure.

The Kodiak bell garden had other bells, but burned in 1943.
