Holiday Open House Planned at Governor's Mansion
The Christmas and Holiday Open House is scheduled for Tuesday at the Governor's Mansion in Juneau.
Gov. Sean Parnell's office says more than 24,000 cookies are being made and more than 100 pounds of fudge and chocolate candies will be served. Cabinet members will serve hot cider and treats to those waiting in line outside.
Parnell's office, in a release, says the first open house was held New Year's Day 1913 and has been held every year since except for two years during World War II.
Parnell says he and his wife always look forward to this time of year.
According to the release, the mansion's interior was decorated by volunteers from the Capital City Republican Women, while state Department of Administration crews decorated the exterior.
