Juneau Dock Project Awaits State Land Transfer
A $54 million dock project is on hold in Juneau.
KTOO reports the municipality's Docks and Harbors Department is delaying the opening of bids for a floating cruise ship berth project until the state grants ownership of 18 acres of submerged tidelands to the city.
Bids had been scheduled for opening Tuesday. Port Director Carl Uchytil says that's been delayed until at least January.
Four entities submitted bids to build the dock.
The public has until Dec. 9 to comment on the state Department of Natural Resources decision approving the land transfer.
A review period of several weeks will follow before a final decision is made.
Uchytil in a prepared statement says the bid opening is being delayed out of an "abundance of caution."
