Knifepoint Sexual Assault Near Wasilla Road Under Investigation
Alaska State Troopers say a sexual assault by a knife-wielding male suspect near a Wasilla road overnight Wednesday is under investigation, with details on what happened still emerging.
According to a Friday AST dispatch, troopers were informed of the case at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
“(A)n adult female reported she was sexually assaulted by an unknown male in the area of Vine Road in Wasilla,” troopers wrote. “The woman reported the assailant threatened her with a knife.”
AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen says it’s not clear Friday night exactly where the assault occurred, but notes that it's possible there were no other witnesses.
“It’s not a heavily populated area,” Ipsen said.
Ipsen says the assault apparently occurred a few hours before it was reported to troopers.
“This was actually initially reported by another individual, which is common for sexual assaults,” Ipsen said. “(The victim) was not injured; she was not treated for any injuries.”
Troopers are trying to learn more, but Ipsen had only a general description of the suspect Friday.
“It’s a tall, thin white male with a mustache and short hair,” Ipsen said.
While troopers aren’t tracking any similar cases in the area and don’t currently believe the incident poses a significant threat to public safety, Ipsen says people should maintain a “situational awareness” in case they’re approached by a similar man.
Anyone who sees a man matching the suspect's description in the area is asked to call Mat-Su Valley dispatchers at 907-352-5401.
The case is being handled by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.
