More than 160 communities plan to hold "Choose Respect" rallies and marches Thursday to drawing attention to the state's "epidemic" of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Gov. Sean Parnell and his wife plan to lead the "Choose Respect" rally in Valdez.
Parnell said in a release that the campaign promotes the value of respect and also empowers Alaskans to speak out against sexual abuse and domestic violence.
An Anchorage rally will see Archbishop Roger Schwietz and the governor’s Senior Rural Affairs Advisor John Moller lead participant from the Delaney Park Strip from downtown's 9th Avenue and F Street to Town Square Park
The Anchorage rally starts Thursday at noon.
Administration officials will once again lead events across the state, with state Revenue Commissioner Angela Rodell scheduled to lead the march in Juneau.
Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell is slated to lead events in Wasilla.
