Police have identified the homicide victim found in a Spenard neighborhood parking lot Thursday afternoon.
Police say 31-year-old Aylett Hanson of Anchorage is the first homicide investigation of 2014. His next of kin have been notified.
APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro provided a brief update on the investigation Friday morning, saying further information would be released as it becomes available.
An autopsy is being conducted today," Castro wrote. "Police are in the process of positively identifying the male victim and will then notify next-of-kin."
Castro declined to say Friday morning whether any indication of weapons or blunt force being used against the man were found at the scene, or how long the man is believed to have been dead when police arrived.
Investigators found the body shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Castro wrote in a Thursday release that police found the dead man inside a vehicle in a business parking lot off the 2600 block of Spenard Road. The parking lot sits between West 26th and West 27th Avenues.
"For the last few hours, police have been conducting a preliminary investigation and at this time we are investigating this death as a homicide," Castro said.
Police and medics responded but Castro said the victim was declared dead at the scene.
