Anchorage firefighters say one person is dead and another injured after a trailer fire in East Anchorage early Friday morning.
According to AFD, the blaze was reported on the 4100 block of DeBarr Road at about 1:30 a.m. Initial reports indicate that the trailer was almost fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.
Crews at the scene confirmed the fatality, and say the injured person was taken to a local hospital. AFD Capt. Joe Cizk says the body was located when crews entered the trailer.
"We tried an aggressive fire attack on the fire and we did find a person inside," Cizk said.
Neighbor Nittaya Siriyod says the trailer was occupied by a couple in their sixties whom she knew well. She says the man died in the fire, while the woman went to Siriyod's home seeking aid.
"I couldn't understand what the word she was saying," Siriyod said. "All she said is, 'Help, help.'"
Siriyod got the woman some clothes, and called 911.
