Channel 2's Mallory Peebles reports on a shooting death in Midtown Anchorage.

ANCHORAGE -

A man was shot dead inside a Midtown assisted living home Tuesday afternoon, and officers from the Anchorage Police Department are busy trying to figure out what went wrong.

Dispatchers received a call at 5:15 p.m. reporting that a man had been shot multiple times inside a residence on 24th Avenue near Fireweed Lane.

By the time officers and paramedics arrived, 63-year-old Eduardo Escalante was dead, and 51-year-old Paul Miller was outside the residence in a motorized wheelchair.

Miller was taken into custody by officers who rode with him in a handicapped-accessible cab.

Details of the moments leading to the shooting remain unclear, but Miller was charged late Tuesday with first- and second-degree murder.
