Premera Offers to Automatically Extend Policies

The largest health insurance company in Alaska plans to automatically extend plans that would have been canceled under the federal health care law if it doesn't hear otherwise from members.
Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield sent notices to about 5,360 individual members in Alaska, notifying them that their existing policies didn't meet requirements of the law and would be discontinued. President Barack Obama later said insurers could continue offering into 2014 plans that would otherwise be canceled with the approval of state insurance regulators.
Insurers in Alaska were given until year's end to file and extend those policies in the state.
A Premera spokeswoman says the company wants to make things as easy as possible for individuals being asked to make a complicated decision in a short amount of time.
