Anchorage police say a former technician at a local hospital has been charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, following allegations by a 14-year-old girl.

Allen Kelly Miller, 28, was arrested Monday on two second-degree counts and one third-degree count of sexual abuse a minor. He was a pediatric technician at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

According to court documents, a 17-year-old girl who was a longtime Providence patient reported she was abused by Miller.

Police say that Miller passed a background check and was employed by Providence  as a patient care technician in the hospital’s Pediatric Unit. He is no longer an employee.

“The victim, a 14-year old girl, was a patient at the hospital and stated that on two occasions, (Miller) entered her room and sexually assaulted her,” said Anita Shell, Anchorage Police Department spokesperson.

The first assault of the 14-year-old happened this July and was unreported by the victim, but another assault was reported to other Providence staff who notified police on Nov. 1.

“There were two days and three incidents,” Shell said.

Miller was reportedly employed at other medical centers, but KTUU could not immediately confirm which ones.

“Detectives (say) that prior to moving to Alaska, he worked in Oregon assisting full-care children and adults,” Shell said. “He explained that ‘full care’ meant that the hospital and nursing staff had to feed, bathe and clean the patients.”

Providence spokesperson Kirsten Schultz confirmed Miller's employment in a written statement Wednesday, saying that he was employed from January to November this year.

"We are always concerned for the safety and welfare of our patients, families and employees," Schultz wrote. "When this issue came to our attention, Providence immediately contacted the Anchorage Police Department."

Miller is being held at the Anchorage Jail without bail.

Detectives believe Miller may have had other victims and are asking anyone with information to call APD at 786-8900.
