The Senate Finance Committee has advanced a bill that would reject recommended pay increases for top state officials.
Committee co-chair Kevin Meyer said he supported the recommendations of the State Officers Compensation Commission, but with the state in deficit spending, the timing is not good.
Other members also agreed the time was not right.
Sen. Lyman Hoffman noted that Gov. Sean Parnell had said he would not accept a pay increase, in light of budget constraints. He said Parnell, as CEO of the state, sets the tone, and it would be difficult for him to treat others differently.
