ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

Storms and rising waters in Seward closed the Lowell Point Bridge Monday afternoon.

“Rising waters from the waterfall have made the road impassible and crews are working to clear it as quickly as possible,” said Johanna Kinney, City Clerk of Seward.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the road closure alert was issued. Earlier in the day, storms in Seward sent mud and gravel washing down Lowell Creek and city officials urged drivers to use extreme caution.

The Seward Public Works Department has had equipment onsite managing the mud and gravel outfall, which turned the creek a dark shade.

Seward city officials listed several phone numbers to local water taxi services:

Miller’s Landing: 224-5739
Orca Island Cabins and Water Taxi: 224-5846
Alaska Coastal Safari: 288-4101
