Should VPSOs be allowed to carry firearms while on duty?
On Tuesday, the Department of Public Safety has requested the public to share their comments on proposed changes to regulations for the Village Public Safety Officer program.
The proposal lays out what a VPSO must do to qualify and what oversight would be in place if it went through.
In March, Leroy B. Dick Jr., 42, allegedly shot and killed VPSO Thomas O. Madole, 54, in Manokotak about 25 miles southwest of Dillingham.
The public comment period will be open until January 17, 2014. To read about the proposed changes, click here.
