South Anchorage Credit Union Robbery Under Investigation
Local and federal law enforcement officials are investigating the robbery of a South Anchorage credit union branch early Tuesday evening.
According to APD spokesperson Dani Myren, police were first called just after 5 p.m. Tuesday to the Credit Union 1 at 1941 Abbott Rd.
Initial reports indicated that the credit union was robbed by an unarmed man, who handed a teller a note demanding money.
While Myren wasn’t immediately able to confirm those details or offer a description of the suspect Tuesday night, she says the incident poses no apparent threat to public safety.
“It is of course being investigated by the FBI, as a bank robbery would be,” Myren said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call APD at 786-8900.
