Suspected Fitness Club Vandal Caught Pretending to be Asleep at Crime Scene

Early Sunday morning police found a midtown club vandalized, with the suspect still inside.

Police responded to a call at the Northern Lights Body Renew Fitness Club, where they discovered office equipment was destroyed on the ground, and a water fountain was found torn off the wall.

During a search of the building officers found Deepak Chaudhary, 29 pretending to be asleep between two exercise mats. According to police Chaudhary had gotten a member's key card and used it to get into the building. Police said Chaudhary inadvertently destroyed the electronic door mechanism, locking himself inside the building. Police said the man didn't notice the emergency exits and remained locked inside until police arrived.

The damage to the health club is estimated at up $30,000. Chaudhary is charged with 1st degree burglary and criminal mischief in the second degree.
