A village police officer in Southwest Alaska has been arrested for sexual abuse of a minor, according to Alaska State Troopers.
On Tuesday, 22-year-old Daniel A. Gonzalez allegedly had sexual relations a teenage girl.
“This contact occurred while Gonzalez was off-duty but while he was utilizing a city owned patrol vehicle,” said AST in a dispatch.
On Friday, Troopers arrested Gonzalez and he was charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
“He works and lives in Togiak,” said Beth Ipsen, AST spokesperson. “He has only been a Village Police Officer (not to be mistaken with a VPSO [Village Public Safety Officer]) for a couple of months at the most.”
Gonzalez was taken to the Dillingham Correctional Center and is expected to be arraigned in Dillingham Court on Saturday.
Togiak is about 67 miles west of Dillingham and has a population of nearly 900 people.
