Troopers, APD to Increase St. Patrick's Day Patrols
Alaska law enforcement officers are warning St. Patrick's Day revelers not to drive drunk.
Alaska State Troopers say they will ramp up road patrols from Friday through Tuesday to curb impaired driving.
The Anchorage Police Department on Wednesday issued a similar warning.
Police say they will have five additional officers on patrol during St. Patrick's Day Weekend for enforcement of laws regarding driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Also, volunteers from the Anchorage Police Citizens Academy Alumni Association will help spot and report impaired drivers.
A grant from the Alaska Highway Safety Office is paying for extra officers.
Anchorage police last year made 30 DUI arrests during St. Patrick's Day Weekend. Eighteen were made on the holiday.
St. Patrick's Day is Monday.
