Troopers Arrest Wasilla Man on Child Porn Charges
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

Alaska State Troopers are crediting a tip from the Anchorage Police Department with leading to the Friday arrest of a 34-year-old Wasilla man on child pornography charges.

According to a Monday AST dispatch, on April 14 AST and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation’s Technical Crimes Unit began to pursue the case, concerning “an individual distributing child sexual exploitation images on the Internet,” after receiving information from APD’s Cyber Crimes Unit.

“Subsequent investigation revealed the suspect to be Michael Szczupakowski, age 34, of Wasilla,” troopers wrote. “On (Friday), he was located at his residence near Wasilla and arrested without incident.”

APD spokesperson Anita Shell wasn’t immediately available Monday for details on the initial circumstances of the case.

AST spokesperson Megan Peters says Szczupakowski faces 10 counts of possession of child pornography. She says that while troopers were initially alerted to the case as a distribution issue, its details may have differed upon investigation.

“When a tip comes in that way, it doesn’t mean that’s what it ultimately is,” Peters said.

Peters says that while troopers don’t have any indication that Szczupakowski committed other crimes, anyone with information that he did so should call AST’s Mat-Su Valley dispatch center at 907-352-5401.
