Man Allegedly Falls Asleep on Richardson Highway, 1 Seriously Injured
ANCHORAGE -

Alaska State Troopers are investigating a man’s death in Noorvik after he allegedly fell down a flight of stairs.

Troopers were notified Friday around 10:20 p.m. that 25-year-old Eli Mitchell reportedly died “shortly after falling down a set of stairs” outside a home in the Northwest Arctic Borough community of fewer than 700 people.

“Mitchell was pronounced deceased by a local ER doctor shortly after it happened,” Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters said Monday.

Troopers responded from Kotzebue to investigate the death. Mitchell’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

“The cause and circumstances surrounding his death are (still) under investigation,” Peters said.

“Alcohol is believed to be a factor” but Peters said toxicology results would ultimately determine if it played a role in Mitchell’s fall.
