ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

Alaska State Troopers say both alcohol and controlled substances are believed to be factors in a single-vehicle rollover early Sunday that left a Wasilla man with serious injuries.

According to a Monday AST dispatch, Palmer and Southcentral Bureau of Highway Patrol troopers responded to Sunset Avenue near Cormorant Drive in Wasilla, where the wreck was reported just after 2:32 a.m. Sunday. The driver -- 52-year-old Francis Henry Barton -- had reportedly suffered a broken arm.

“An investigation showed that a 1999 Ford Explorer had failed to negotiate a curve in the road on Sunset (Avenue) as the road turned into Cormorant Drive,” troopers wrote. “The vehicle slid off the road and rolled at least once.”

Barton, who was unconscious when troopers and medics arrived, was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers say the Ford Explorer was a total loss.
