Witnesses Report Stranded Whale Near Mile 93
A young whale was stranded in Cook Inlet at several points as the tide went out, say witnesses.
NOAA received multiple calls about the whale as early as late Friday night, which was reported to have gotten stuck in shallow water more than once as the tide receded from the inlet, said Julie Speegle, a spokeswoman with NOAA.
The juvenile whale was identified by witnesses and rescue workers on scene as a humpback whale, and appeared to be alone.
Those who observe a stranded whale or other marine animal should call the NOAA Fisheries Alaska 24-hour Marine Mammal Stranding hotiline at 877-925-7773.
