The UAA volleyball team's conference championship hopes took a hit on Thursday night with a four game loss to #10 Western Washington at home, 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15.
The Seawolves and Vikings entered the match with identical 12 and 2 marks in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Now, Western is a full match ahead with only three matches to go in the regular season.
Katelynn Zanders led UAA with 20 kills, while Brooke Pottle added 16, but they were the only Seawolves to reach double figures. As a team, UAA hit for a .160 percentage, compared to the Vikings .294. Kayla Erickson paced Western Washington with 13 kills on 25 attempts.
The rest of the season will be critical for UAA, with slim chances of passing Western Washington in the GNAC race. The Seawolves came into the week outside the top eight in the latest Division II west region poll, with only eight schools assured a spot in the NCAA tournament. UAA hosts Simon Fraser on Saturday night in its home finale.
