Former Alaska Player of the Year Kelsey Griffin of Chugiak High fame received a unique honor on Wednesday night as her number 23 jersey was retired by Nebraska during the Cornhuskers' game against Michigan.
Griffin, who was lightly recruited coming out of high school, went on to become a three-time All-Big 12 selection and conference player of the year during the 2010 season when she led the Cornhuskers to a 32-2 record. She was named first-team All-American that season, becoming the first Alaskan so recognized at the Division I level.
Griffin finished her career third in all-time scoring at Nebraska with over 2,000 points, adding over 1,000 rebounds. She now plays in the WNBA with the Connecticut Sun.
