The Carolina Hurricanes agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way deal with defenseman Rasmus Rissanen on Wednesday, paying him $575,000 at the NHL level, or $90,000 at the American Hockey League level.

Rissanen, 23, has spent the past three seasons with the Charlotte Checkers, the Hurricanes' AHL affiliate. He had a career-high 10 points last season -- three goals and seven assists -- in 62 games. He has played in 188 games for Charlotte, with six goals, 19 assists and 232 penalty minutes.

Rissanen, a native of Kuopio, Finland, was a restricted free agent.

The Hurricanes selected Rissanen in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL Draft, picking him 178th overall.
