Nick Mazzolini scored twice and Peter Sivak tallied three assists as the Aces rallied from a 5-3 deficit to force overtime Wednesday against the Idaho Steelheads, ultimately falling in a shootout, 6-5. The shootout loss does give Alaska a point, enabling the team to close to within one point of Western Conference-leading Ontario.
The result leaves the Aces 34-15-4, while the Reign are 34-15-5. The game also signals the end of the Aces and Steelheads season series. Alaska finishes 6-3-3 against Idaho.
It looked like Alaska might drop this one in regulation. After leading, 2-0 after one period the Aces allowed three consecutive second period goals and still trailed by two midway through the third period.
Brett Findlay and Brad Richard each scored inside the final 10 minutes of regulation, with Richard's equalizer coming at 16:44 of the third.
Anchorage's William Rapuzzi had a goal and an assist to help Idaho's cause.
