The UAA men's basketball team was denied its first opening round victory in the Great Alaska Shootout since 1996 with a tough to swallow 73-70 loss to TCU in a quarterfinal matchup that stretched well past midnight on Thanksgiving morning.
After two free throws from Travis Thompson, the Seawolves held a 70-66 lead with 1:48 remaining, but the Horned Frogs rallied for the final seven points of the contest. Amric Fields hit the game winning shot off the backboard with 9 point 9 seconds to go.
After a couple of TCU free throws, Brian McGill's last second heave from mid court to force overtime hit the front of the rim and bounced out.
Thompson led UAA with 19 points, while McGill added 16. Kyan Anderson connected on four three pointers and guided TCU with 17 points.
The Horned Frogs advance to Friday's 8:00 semifinal against Tulsa, while the Seawolves drop into the consolation round to play Indiana State at noon.
