Sochi Day Three: Women's Curling and Alpine Skiing

SOCHI, Russia -

Monday at the Olympics, a pair of Alaska-connected athletes had a chance to compete.

The U.S. Women's Curling team got off to a rough start, seeing defeat by Switzerland 7-4.

With eight games left in round robin play, Anchorage native Jessica Schultz knows there's still time to get things going in the right direction.

“There's a lot of games left,” she said. “It's a marathon. So we’re just going to come back positive tomorrow. We have two big games coming up, get some rest, and be ready for tomorrow."

In Alpine Skiing, UAA's Anna Berecz had a personal best finish in the Super Combined. She was 33rd after the downhill race but jumped up to 21st place in the Slalom portion of competition. That's six spots better than her mark in the 2010 Vancouver Games.

Berecz skis for Hungary.
